    Seminar on Resource Efficiency in Automotive and its Side Industry

    SEMINAR ON RESOURCE EFFICIENCY IN AUTOMOTIVE AND ITS SIDE INDUSTRY

    Kocaeli Chamber of Industry (KSO) and TÜBİTAK MRC Environment and Cleaner Production Institute jointly carried out the Seminar on Resource Efficiency in the Automotive Industry and its Side Sector” on June 4, 2015.

    The seminar was held at Regional Directorate building of TOSB Automotive Side Industry Specialized Industrial Zone. The representatives/officials from the Directorate General of Renewable Energy, Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning, Eastern Marmara Development Agency and various companies participated in the event.

    Delivering the opening speech in the seminar, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kitiş, Director of TÜBİTAK MRC Environment and Cleaner Production Institute, informed the participants about the institute's structure, activities and efforts. He emphasized that the institute could undertake joint projects with the public and private sector and that they were ready for cooperation. Prof. Kitiş stated that it was very important for the Strategic Cleaner Production Business Unit, which serves as a National Cleaner Production Center, to carry out cleaner production surveys for manufacturing enterprises and to organize seminars and training programs to increase the awareness of industrialists for the dissemination of the cleaner production concept.

    After the opening speech, Volkan Varal from TOFAŞ Turkish Automobile Factory delivered a presentation entitled "Sustainable Production Approach in the Automotive Sector” on efficiency practices for sustainability and waste reduction practices in manufacturing facilities.

    Cengizhan Çırak from AUTOLIV company explained their work titled "Reducing Cost of Machinery Operation and Scraps in Sewing Process," which was deemed worthy of the first prize in the “Large-scale Enterprise" category in 2015 Efficiency Week.

    In the second session of the seminar, Meral Turan from Automotive Manufactures Association made a presentation titled “The Current State of the Automotive Industry in our Country and Activities related to Fuel Consumption in Vehicles and Motorbikes.” She referred to annual resource consumption and greenhouse gas emission changes in the Turkish automotive sector comparing the available data with those from the EU countries.

    Sacit Tekin from BRISA BRIDGESTONE Plant delivered the last presentation in the seminar titled “Sustainable Production Practices” informing about BRISA’s Managerial Sustainability Understanding and relevant practices.
