Training on Resource Efficiency in the Iron and Steel Sector

SEMINAR ON RESOURCE EFFICIENCY IN THE IRON AND STEEL SECTOR HELD IN KOCAELI CHAMBER OF INDUSTRY.

TÜBİTAK MRC Environment and Cleaner Production Institute organized "Training on Resource Efficiency in the Iron and Steel Industry " on November 13, 2014, in cooperation with Kocaeli Chamber of Industry pursuant to cleaner production activities and project on "Prediction of Resource Efficiency in the manufacturing industry."

The training in Kocaeli Chamber of Industry was attended by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, public institutions and universities such as Kocaeli University, Istanbul Technical University and Marmara University, Turkish Steel Producers Association and sector representatives.

Mehmet B. Turabi, Secretary General of Kocaeli Chamber of Industry, made an opening speech at the event. Mr. Turabi emphasized that 13% of the Turkish manufacturing industry was based in the vicinity of Kocaeli stating that the basic metals industry had strategic importance with a high savings potential

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kitiş, Director of TÜBİTAK MRC Environment and Cleaner Production Institute, informed participants about the institute's structure, activities, cleaner production and resource efficiency efforts in his opening speech.

The training featured legal regulations and concepts related to resource efficiency in the world, national and international case studies to determine the resource efficiency saving potential in the basic metals sector, and information on energy efficiency and waste recovery in the iron and steel sector.
