    Applied Resource Efficiency Training

    APPLIED RESOURCE EFFICIENCY TRAINING HELD

    Istanbul Chamber of Industry (İSO) and TÜBİTAK MRC Environment and Cleaner Production Institute jointly carried out Training on Applicable Resource Efficiency” from September 1-2 and 10-11, 2015.

    The training had both theoretical and practical stages. It was attended by the representatives of the Directorate General of Productivity of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, the Directorate General of Environmental Management of the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning, the Directorate General of Economic Sectors and Coordination of the Ministry of Development and various institutions and organizations and company officials.

    In her opening speech, Dr. Selmaz Ayaz, Director of TÜBİTAK MRC Environment and Cleaner Production Institute, provided information on the institute's structure, activities, and efforts. Dr. Ayaz also stated that our institute functioned as a "National Cleaner Production Center." Erbil Büyükbay, the Head of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry's Environment and Energy Department, emphasized the importance of training for industrialists.

    Dr. Şeyma Karahan, one of the Institute’s Senior Researchers, emphasized the importance of undertaking cleaner production surveys for industrial enterprises as with role of the National Cleaner Production Center and that they were ready to cooperate and undertake joint projects with public and private sectors.

    Following the opening speeches, Prof. Dr. Göksel Niyazi Demirer from Faculty of Environmental Engineering, METU, provided the participants with theoretical information on current developments in resource efficiency as well as cleaner production concept, application methods and approaches, audit, and examples of application from various sectors.

    The application part of the training was conducted at NORMSAN Ticaret Metal İmalat Sanayi Ltd. Şti on September 10-11. As part of the practical training, on-site visits were paid to the firm, and the participants identified cleaner production opportunities. Then, the group work moderated by the researchers from TÜBİTAK MRC Environmental and Cleaner Production Institute provided a detailed account of the possible energy, water, and raw material saving and the costs of the investment requirements as part of the identified cleaner production opportunities.
